GUAGUA PICHINCHA VOLCANO TREK IN ECUADOR

1 day hike Guagua Pichincha volcano

This is a great day out close to Quito and ideal for a first excursion into Ecuador's famed paramo or moorland vegetation, as well as a rare opportunity to be climbing an active volcano. The trek can serve also as a good acclimatization route for climbing subsequent higher peaks like Iliniza North or Cotopaxi.









The hike takes around 4 to 5 hours and begins on a trail just a short drive from Quito that takes us round the west side of the volcano. On the hike we stop for a box lunch and our guides will point out any flora and fauna of interest. The summit is at a dizzy 4798m, and is extremely rewarding with views into the mouth of the volcano as well as extensive views of Quito, stretching as for as the eye can see on its north - south axis. Following the decent we will drive back to Quito.
